Beard Algae

Post by 19wiggles86 »

Hi, has anyone used any treatments for beard algae in a zebra tank. We're not 100% sure it is beard algae but I have seen photos of hair algae and it doesn't look quite the same.

Thanks

blackout for a few days would help keep the growth down and sometimes kill it.

the best bet would be to pull the items with the algae out and scrub it.

Hi eklikewhoa, unfortunately, the algae is growing on plants (as well as wires and the heater). So a blackout isn't really a viable option, nor is removing the plants. I was thinking more along the lines of some sort of chemical remedy that someone has used. Thanks.

Is your tank low tech or are you using CO2?

Are you dosing ferts?

How are your plants doing?

dosing chemicals could have a negative effect on the zebras but if you really want to an overdose of seachem excel or a high ppm of co2 will kill it off along with a blackout period, the plants will live through the blackout.

Algae is usually a sign of not enough nutrients for plants, but just enough for algae.
