My fry....

Here's most of my fry, I took them all out of the tank tonight and put them into a tank of their own. A couple escaped from my hand while putting them into the holding trap and went straight into the tank but this is the vast majority of them. I didn't bother counting them as there's another lot of 10 day old fry still in one of the caves but I removed about 40 it total, give or take 1 or 2.
Apologies for the quality on some of the pics but I really didn't want to be farting around taking pictures and stressing them out even more...
Enjoy...

Are there any houses for sale near you? I just got the sudden urge to move to the U.K. In light of recent events, it’s great to hear a success story.

Nice work PM.
I know Rob is working on it but for curiosty what water parameters do you have?
Mine are:
ph 6.9
Hardness 190 ppm TDS
Ammonia and Nitrite 0 (!)
Nitrate approx 10 mg/l
Temp 30 degrees
I've got about 30 or so fry of various ages, eldest is 1 year, youngest 1 week free-swimming.
I find that their growth rate is slow when left with the colony, but rapid when isolated. Getting them out of a 500l tank is a pain!

Hi Alevans,
My parameters are somewhat similar to yours, are you also using r/o?
ph6.7-6.9
Tds also varies, never lower than 280 and up to 350ppm (although the very first spawn was done with a tds of about 480ppm).
Ammonia and Nitrite - 0mg/l
Nitrate, 20mg/l as an average
Temp 29C, which I drop to about 26C to induce a spawn
I haven't had the chance to check whether the fry grow quicker when isolated but I'd certainly be interested to find out.
Lol, everyone I've spoken to seems to say getting hold of the fry isn't very difficult, ie just cup a hand over them etc etc. I find impossible to catch them with my hands and virtually impossible with a net and that's catching them in a much smaller tank than yours. I found the best way, for me, is to use a clear plastic fry trap laid on its side. By creating a triangle using the opening of the fry tap and one corner of the tank, I could coax the fry which were in the corner into the plastic fry trap and then take them into the other tank without problem.
thanks
