Hello everybody.
After being a long-time unregistered observer, I decided to join this community to try to know better and do something for the Hypancistrus zebra.
I´m a brazilian biologist, with 20+ years of fishkeeping, and a member of the IBAMA staff. I'd love to see this magnificent fish become out of danger and on-trade again here in Brazil. There's no need to the continuous smuggling of illegally captured specimens to the ornamental fish trade, IMHO.
Best regards.
Daniel.

Hi Daniel!
Great to see you finally made it over here. I agree with you, it seems they are becoming rarer as each year passes by - Blue from EF just raised his prices again possibly because he is having trouble finding them.
But what's a resonable solution? With all these markets in the US, Asia and Europe still smuggling in wild-caught specimens one cannot order everyone to boycott these shops - it is impossible. Especially as there are people who aren't aware or who don't care about the species and thus a boycott is out the question. Is there anyway to stop the smuggling from Brazil?
Welcome

Raul,
I'll try to contribute here... Starting with the translations called in the "In the wild" forum.
Oh, Blue has zebras for sale again... But didn't offered them here, just in PC. I wonder why...
Dave,
Thanks for the kind words. I'll try to help as much as I can.
Best regards.
Daniel.

Hi Daniel
Welcome to the forum. As Netsui stated, we certainly manage to drum up some interesting topics. I think the Zebra must be one of the most "Political" fish out there at the moment.
Join in, Have fun, and I hope to hear from you soon.

Ouch... I got a worse lapse this time.
Really sorry for this, guys... Let's start again here.
Got a REAL long time away from fish forums, especially not-portuguese ones.
No real news on zebras yet, they remain in the endangered list here in Brazil, weren't included in CITES and the dams are still on hold, but not for long IMHO.
Good news... Some guys are being registered as commercial breeders of this species, so we should have some CB zebs in Brazil in some time.
Best regards.
Daniel.
