Hi All,

I'm still in search of a female zebra and ran across, IMHO, a ridiculous statistic. female 50:1 male in the wild.

Man, I think this guy is way off and he wants to sell one sub adult female for $500 USD.

I have no data to disprove this but 50:1 sounds way off. I do believe females are more difficult to find but this sounds like someone made up a statistic just to justify higher prices.

Anyone have any comments?

I guess what he means is that the males are a lot easier to catch than the females, as the males are gurding their brood with their life and aren't going to move just because somebody lifts the rock or root where they are guarding.

The females are, as we all know, all over the place, and therefor a lot harder to catch.

Give it some time, and - this is my prediction - the males are going to be harder to come by than the females. I base this prediction on the fact that 80% of my F1's are female.

Might have something to do with the temperature, like with other species...?

This guy is trying to justify higher prices. The things some of these people will do for a buck.

I guess some folks will believe him and actually buy a sub adult for $500 US.
