Hello Everyone!

Was referenced here through a mutual colleague at work searching the world over for some beautiful Zebras. I am very eager to learn all I can about these beauties and more. I currently have on-hand a few common plecos, a few tiger plecos, a king tiger, a Queen arabesque, a couple white tipped tail bristlenoses, and one very gravid and lively female (I don't remember the name of this specimen). I'm not very good with the naming game or L numbers but hopefully over time I can learn a great deal from the senior members here and others as well. Most of the plecos I have received have been through a good friend, I believe he goes by the name Jim2cool. He is a die hard pleco nut, and I mean it with all due respect, he imports some really nice strains and is the one responsible for my collection on-hand so far.
My wife will be making an expedition this summer to Peru and I'm hoping that should will be able to find a couple specimens for me down in South America as she will be there doing some research for her school. Depending on their prices and possibilities, I hope to have some by this mid summer time or so. I'll definitely keep you guys posted, but for now, I'm off to learn everything I can about these guys and read everything I can about them.

First off, welcome to the forum!
Second, your wife will have a wee bit of trouble finding zebras in Peru. They originate in Brazil 
. It's also illegal to collect or export them, so the fines and prison time she could potentially face might be something to deter you both from the idea. There are tank raised specimens available and even a few sponsors have adults for sale, if you're in the market. I really doubt it would be worth the cost of getting caught with them to try to collect your own at this point in time!

I think the intention was to buy some Barbie, not collect from rivers.
But as Barbie has stated, they are from Brazil and not from Peru.

Even if you bought them, you'd still have to export them, which is the illegal part .

Sounds like you have a similar affliction, sorry obsession to the rest of us!
As Barbie said, you might have a few problems getting them back through customs, but if you keep an eye on the Sales & Wants section of the site you should be able to get your hands on a few.
Why not pop along to the Commercial section of the forum and see if any of our sponsors have some available.

Thanks for the inclusion Barbie;
I didn't know they were illegal to import them here into the USA. And I thought since she may be purchasing them at local fish shops in Peru and not Brazil. I will find out all information before putting her through something like this.
And although I do believe there are indeed tank raised specimens available here in the States, to no avail has anyone been of help trying to help me acquire these. There are too many waiting lists and folks not wanting to part with them. And when they do they want $350 to $400 a piece. I think these prices are ridiculous indeed and money hungry for one. But we have friends in Peru that have seen these at local fish shops for approximately $20.00 - $25.00 USD. So for one, if she can indeed bring them in with no restrictions from the Peruvian government then why not bring in my own colony right? Anyway, thanks for the heads up and I still hope to learn from the rest.
