i would like to soften the water were i am and lower the ph & gh so i can try to to get my zebs to have a tickle & a fancy.
i use a heavy metals filter and the water parameters are
ph 7-7.5, gh-12, n02 0 and n03 very low. 60 ltr tank 6 zebs
i use a fluval 3 internal filter.
heres the idea if i buy a external canister filter ehiem 2213 and pack it with peat, would this over time lower the ph & gh say to ph 6.5 and gh 8 ?. i relise that the water would'nt start softening until it put into the tank but if i do little and often water changes may be this would be ok. this would be my alternative to an ro unit.
any help / suggestions would be appriciated :) thank you

sounds cool. is there such a thing as too soft? ( for zebs, anyway..) I think i'd like to give that a go , as well.

Yes there is. 0KH and 0GH can give the fish problems with the osmosis regulation

I wouldn't want to try it on such a small tank - there is not a lot of water there to remain stable with such a comparatively large filter on it....

what size are the zebs - 6 in a 2ft tank doesn't sound like a good idea.
we have 5 L236's in a 2ft but they are small (and about to move into a nice big 4ft)
