My zebra' s spawned on Sept. 9th, the babies are still in the cave with Dad and are showing stripes, the problem is he has another female in the cave. Question is what to do with the babies.

Suggestions please......

he has another female in there again? is there any way you can get the babies out and into a breeder? even if it means getting the bigger parents out i would try, dont think it can be to good for them in there with an adult pair

Darn fish!

I removed the back of the cave, two babies swam out, across the roof and back in the front of the cave, past both adults. I put the back of the cave back on and soon after he kicked out the female.

He is now back to tending the young that I assume will be let out to get food in a couple days.

Thanks for the reply Neo, I tried and the babies wanted to stay with Dad. :x

No worries, id have panicked had two adults been in a cave with babies incase they got hurt, if you get a chance to get them into a breeder go for it just incase the adult pair are wanting to spawn again

Sorry I missed this one. I was in Lovely Doncatser all day yesterday.

If it happens again, the best thing to do is just leave them. There should be no aggression from the famles towards the fry, even if they are not her own. This is quite common with first spawns one consecutively (within 2 weeks), after the other.

You may find the famel might be back in there tomorrow.

Good luck

Not too worry the male may not have been intersted so close to the previous spawn. You don't want to wear the poor fella out!!!

Thanks Rob. After the babies went right back into the cave, even with an easy access hatch, I put everything back.

The female is back inside this morning, maybe the fry will learn something?

Thanks all-

So, the female goes back in the cave on Sunday and is still in front of the male with him fluttering like crazy, what's the longest time its taken once both fish are in the cave?

Should I try wine and soft music...the lighting is laready low :D

I've had them take a month, literally. Break out the patience, it might be a long October ;).
