Perhaps, his IP address was banned.

Too good to be true ... unfortunately you can change IP address just by disconnecting and reconnecting the internet line cable ...
All I am trying to say is beware, people like that on the net don't get knocked off easily.

My experience of fraud:
http://www.plecofanatics.com/forum/show ... 122&page=2
The guy's name is Danny Mildenberger (which is a confirmed name and has an account to which I sent money) and he has about 5 email addys that I know off! And of course I got various emails from other people after I posted explaining what happend saying they have had the same experience.... I really detest this kind of thing so I pursued legally - which these people don't really mind as they know it costs you more than the original amount you lost. However I reckoned that this is what they count on and if they saw that people will pursue the matter they may give up in the end. He seemed to be more upset when I reported him to the Interpol for internet fraud. Still waiting to see what will happen - and that is nine months later!! Local police had informed me that zebra scum is rising rapidly (apparently) in the crime list, while a Canadian firm I employed to represent me have indicated that internet theft is a number 1 crime in BC, where this joker lives. So I can only add BEWARE to the list of previously said BEWARES here.
Valhallan, how is your case going?

Where exactly is he at in BC? Do you have a street address? I live two hours from the Canadian border. Lyretail will probably be closer if he's in Vancouver, but maybe we could make things a little less comfortable for him
. You know, find out where he works, that sort of thing.

Caesars,
My CC company reimbursed me for the entire amount, fortunately. Paypal was... less helpful.

when in doubt with paypal make the seller put up an ebay "Buy Now" auction for what you are buying, then pay via paypal, that way you are 100% safe and can get your money back

Barbie he lives in Kelowna - I have the street address of his bank etc and his account number. My solicitror there will have his full addy. He has told my solicitor he is a student - but then again he has told different people all sorts of different stories. If you think it can help I can send you all the details I got for him.
Well done val!! and Neo, don't be so sure about ebay - when I called they said they don't guarrantee anything. After my recent experience with them and paypal I would advise anybody BEFORE they bid to call ebay and ask whether the transaction with the particular seller is covered.

I don't think PayPal cover for overseas account. I've had my PayPal account for a few years now, but I'm still not a "Verified member", meaning, probably, that they can't do it, as I'm overseas. I've had several transactions going through this account, so I don't think it's because they find me particularily suspect
I belive only "verified" members are covered for refunds, and both parties need to be "verified".

McEve they aren't! I am verified and they wouldn't cover me! And ebay will not offer ANY cover other the one offered by paypal. Paypal said to me that to cover a transaction for "some" amount the seller needs to have over 93% positive feedback or over 1000+ (don't remember how many exactly) transactions on ebay and even then the amount is debatable. Which is why I am saying better check before bidding - best way to know where you stand ...

Is it possible to post a sticky thread of "known" scams? I know we don't want to spread unfound rumors but we do want to protect ourselves and fellow hobbyist and breeders.
Here's a thought has anyone contacted aquabid/ebay to have these scammers thrown off their site(s)? If enough claims were filed they should do something after all it’s in their best interest.

Dang, I dropped the ball on this one. Kelowna is a few hours drive for me, but definitely doable. Has there been any more progress on any of it? I wonder if Canada has a form of small claims suits that you can file like we do in the US?
I've only ever heard of a few people being totally banned from Aquabid. Ebay tends to be much better about that sort of thing, but it's not terribly difficult for people to even get around them, I'm sad to say.
