Andrew, please let me know if you are able to recoup at least the Paypal part of it. Dan

So sorry to all this has happened to. I was going to bid on the auction myself, but ended up going with a different supplier. And let's just say that I am still waiting for my shipment so I may be in the same boat too.

That's wonderful Andrew! They'll have a much better chanse of getting him, and besides, that's one of the reasons to use a reputable creditcard - you can dispute the bill when you haven't recieved the goods :D

I'm glad you were able to do this! And congrats on getting another 6 too! Things turned out well in the end. Close call though hey :? I think we all learned from this scam!

That's great news Andrew. My credit card company proved to be a pretty good bunch too, and I ended up getting everything back.

Here's hoping he finds himself in some hot water.

That's excellent news guys. I'm glad to hear that you guys got your money back. :D It's always best to try and pay by credit card for any online purchases. Royal mail kindly "lost" £300 worth of computer components for me last year and the company I ordered from were dragging their heals about giving me a replacement. :x The boys from Master Card lent on them and I got my replacement parts a couple of weeks later.

You were VERY lucky that your Credit card comp got your money back. If you read your "Cardholder Agreement", you will find a section stating that you are not covered for "live animals". So you are lucky....nice CC comp.

I once got a bunch of Silver bars "stolen" in the mail. They were insured, but the supplier refused to replace them. Luckily, my Visa refunded ALL the amount. They didn't have to, because if you read the Agreement, BULLION is not covered (included bars). So I was treated good once too.

But there will come a day when your CC will NOT refund your money. Depends on their mood?

Buyer beware....I have been ripped off over CAN$6000 myself.

Sorry to hear all this guys! Was this guy based in Canada? I got done in March by somebody based in BC who was posting on plecofanatics. I saw the post you are discussing but I didn't go for it, thank God. I was wondering if there is any mileage in making a thread with email addies/ details of people who we know for a fact are bogus dealers. Not for any other reason, but to protect ourselves!

The thread started with a dieter in Germany. I can't remember if there was one in Canada as well. Have to read the whole thread to find out

Luckily it ended well for Andrew!

No kiddin ... the one that defrauded me from Canada was active at plecofanatics. I understand, having talked to the Canadian Authorities, that there is a big scum going on particularly in BC and they are aware of it.

If I remeber correctly Dietmar has been banned from the big plec* forums in Germany.

How can they ban them? They only need to make a new name up and an email address and they are at it again! The one who defrauded me had at least 8 email addys that we know of!
