I'm with dave here - we're on our 3rd spawn now - the first we seperated, the 2nd we lost to fungus after I emptied the eggs out of a cave not realising the they were there and now the third are in the tank with the parents...

They seem to be growing quicker that the ones we separated.

Anyway... I'd go with the auto feeder, this might go against the grain for most on here but I'd slow down water changes in the build up to going away then it wont be a shock for a 17 day stint with no change.... Get the de-nutrifying plants in there too

Can't do, my system is not suited for floating plants, i have a overflow system with a large biofilter/sump and i can't take the risk of some plant clogging my overflow because then my tank will overflow and my pump will run dry etc. .

I am forced to leave this batch in the tank, i will keep an eye on the results and take my decisions for the future from there.
Must say that i had very good experiences with my breeder, but i am convinced that it has to do with the kind of breeder you use, i think some breeder setups are not suited for the fry's needs.
Imo keeping the breeder spotless clean is one of the most important things, together with a good flow rate of clean water.

Yes i use the almond leaves in my zeb tank.
Later on this year i will write something in the forum of my experiences and findings.
For the moment to me the use of the leaves looks promising.
There is actually a lot to be found on the net about those leaves, the best articles are written in german though.

I am back from my 17 days of vacation and everything went well in my zebtank, i did use the eheim autofeeder with 1 very small feeding every 24 hours so there was a minimum of food to be found for the most hungry.
The wigglers are nowhere to be seen, hopefully they are somewhere hidden between the rocks and bogwood, and last but not least the male is fanning eggs again
So i might conclude everything went well

Welcome back John, hope you had a great time. It's good to hear that the zebs are all doing well and that the male has spawned again.

Keep us posted on the Almond leaves, I use them in my shrimp only tanks but I haven't put them in the zeb tanks yet.
