Hi from the UK - new tank setup

Post by Bigfoot »

Hi all - thought I would share some pics of my new set up

70 x 38 x 38 approx. 100 litres

Eheim Aquaball Internal filter
Eheim Ecco 200 Ext filter

Aqueal heater 100w ( great heaters )

In there at the moment I have 6 x juvenile Zebs - very shy

they seem to eating quite well on JBL sinking granules and bloodworm which I have stopped as I believe the babys can choke on them!

anyway here are a few pics - I used some java moss for some colour - thanks

Just anf FYI. In the wild zebras live quite deep and there is almost no light. There is not enough to support algae even. So the odds are they will stay pretty well hidden in that tank until after lights out.

I run no lights on any of my 4 different tanks with zebras. While I do have light over the tanks, they are only turned on during maint.
What makes the common person uncommon is common sense.

hi - thanks for that

Tank has been changed slightly - with more flow

problem I have now is that the food / granules I put in there that used to sink is now being shifted al over the tank - do you think the zebs would go looking for the food at lights out - before they seem to stay at just one place as they are very shy ?

saying that I have never watched them at lights out as its pitch black - do you think they will wander and look for the food ?

thanks BF :aok:

Just keep an eye on leftovers in the morning. I find my zebras do roam a bit after lights out. I would also turn down the flow during feedings as zebras won't chase food

Hi to you all,
I have read these posts with interest, especially regarding the lighting.
I have a 330 litre community aquarium which has 5 Zebra Plec's in it which are about 18 - 24 months old.The aquarium has 2 x 54watt T5 tubes lighting it up from 2pm to 10.30 pm and blue LED lights from 10pm to midnight ( to simulate moonlight).
But here's the thing : My Zeb's are in full view all day, coming out of their caves to feed in full light but as soon as the main lights go out and the aquarium is in darkness they disappear into the far back of their caves. I have used a torch-light to look into the aquarium during the night and in the early hours of the morning but the Zeb's are not out, they are only out when the aquarium is lit up.
Some great articles here gents....... Many thanks.
Gary.
