It's your own preference i think, won't hurt them not feeding once a week.

I feed mine every day at 10pm, 12am, 2am, 4am, 6am and 10am via eheim auto feeder.

I also hand feed them 1-2 times a day when in home on the weekends.

I feed ALL my adult plecos (as well as other fish) every other day.
