All White Zebra???

Post by TwoTankAmin »

I just did a quick scan of my breeding tank which also holds a bunch of fry. As I was shining my flashlight around to see what was up, it illuminated a fry which appeared to be all white. It has black eyes, so this means it isnt an albino. The fry appeared to be healthy as it behaved exactly as i would expect a fry illuminated by the light would.

Has anybody ever seen a zebra that lacks the black stripes or do I have a sick fish?

I tried to get a pic but I cant get enough light.

I spoke with a german breeder who had 2 of these from a batch, they stayed white for a year and then developed stripes after 1 year!
There seemed nothing wrong with their health though.
Greetings,
John

TTA, how's that white zebra? Did it get it stripes? I only ask cause I saw some all white zebras with black eyes on a German site, they were adult size. Kinda cool.

TTA, when mine started breeding a couple of years ago, the first 2 batches of about 14 fry from different females all appeared white certainly lacking stripes.
After 2-3 months they gained their black & white stripes, at the time I put it down to the fry been abnormal.
But when they gained their stripes, my guess it was a camouflage against the sand bottom.
I never took any pics at the time, I wish I had even though getting pics
would have been hard.
I have never experienced it since & it was only ever in one tank
