My new tank set up

Post by leeac »

Hi everyone,

Here my: 58gal Oceanic tank; 20 gal sump; 1200 little giant water pump. Even though my tank looks completely empty, there are actually 10 adult zebs in there(2.5 to 3.5 inches) Please critique. Thanks!

Oops....forgot to add the water specs- PH 7.3; using just tap water for now(have ro/di unit); temp 83; bare bottom; 12 caves in tank.

Questions: 1) should I raise the temp anymore in my tank? 2)is water pump sufficient or should I add another powerhead(there are bubble all over the tank as it is)? 3) should I make the water 50/50 ro/tap (I'm also a reefer so I'm pretty handy with the ro/di unit) or tap at ph7.3 is fine? 4) Do I have too many caves or it doesn't really matter? I believe the male/female ratio in my tank is pretty even or I have more females than males(have pics available).

Thanks again!!

very nice. love the shaped wood. intertesting tank outside, looks a bit granite like.
do you use daylight or moonlight bulbs?
i would mix some RO with the tap water, but you dont say how hard the water is?
i keep mine just under 7 ph so is on acid side of neutral. dont know if thats best but all my other plecs like that. the wood helps to soften water and lower ph too.
I keep a few plants in mine, mainly to look nice and to help absorb any toxins in the water.
good luck

Thanks for the reply. I use a ten gallon flour. strip light for the tank since they're so shy. The Kh in my tap water is 3dh. The Gh is a 7dh.

Nice looking tank :)

Temp is around the same as mine and I just use normal tap water which seems to suit mine so far but they are way off breeding age yet

Your solid surface tank stand is awesome, Do you work in a solid surface shop? I thought about doing this but making the actual tank out of 3\4" corian with a piece of 3\8" glass on the front. Whats your thoughts?
