6th spawn in less than 6 months, is this normal

Post by I_Need_Zebras »

Hi all, my alpha male and female are in the process of spawning again, this is the 6th spawn in about 5 1/2 months, surely this is not normal, it seems to be about every 3 weeks I am getting fry.

Can this be dangerous to the adults, can this result in poor quality fry, or am I just being paranoid?

Any advice, also theres still fry in the cave from the last spawn, will these be ok?

It's not broken, don't go fixing it ;). The male obviously is one of the ones that will leave the cave to feed and keep himself in condition. Don't worry, they have a natural method of making sure they don't over do it. He won't be in the mood or advertise for her to get in the cave when he needs a break. Take advantage of the good luck while you have it ;). That sounds like my first spawning run. They've never spawned like that again, but nothing bad came of it at all. Just leave them be :).

I have a breeding group consisting of 1 male and 3 females. They just hit their 12th spawn since Febuarary this year. Nothing to worry about. :D

Agree with all before. We have 5 spawning pairs in the same tank and 3 in a different tank. They all seem to spawn at different intervals. Our gamma male spawns every 4 weeks religiously (he kicks the fry out and the female is in there in a flash). He's been doing that for a year now and he is in mint condition, so is his female. Other males spawn anything up to once in 4-5 months.
You got a good pair there, that's all that it is!!!
