fry trap

I am looking at the fry traps why does it always have a sponge wall and the other side dosent. It might be a silly question but confused.

keep the water quality as perfect as possible, fry are very sensitive to water changes and water parameters being off.. also the sponge lets u feed them flake food crushed up, sticks to the filter and allows teh fry to cling onto the filter and eat or just hang out too!!.. main thing is keeping their fry trap clean like the filteration on ur main tank would do. just a mini filter system for ur fry.. hope this answers ur questions.

The sponge is to cover a big hole on the side of the trap, so that the young zebras don't get out.
A trap is like a mini tank inside a tank, the water enters the trap by a sponge filter and leaves through the hole in the side which the sponge covers.
