Not seen this behaviour before.....

Post by andrewcoxon »

hey guys,

just been watching my zebras with my tank lights off but my room light on (so the tanks lit but not very bright) i dropped some food in as usual and my newest addition (an adult female i hope) started feeding as normal as she eats like a pig, about 20 mins later my largest male emerged from his cave, had a look about then charged at my female and chased her up onto some rocks.... he began to eat and she snook back down and he turned and chased her again... not sure if its a good sign, a bad sign or what but at least there not ignoring eachother. iv never seen my zebras act like this before, they normally keep them selves to them selves...and the males not usually that brave or active.

what do you think is happening?

cheers,

andy

My juvis are like that!

I have this one loner that chills by itself while all the others stick close together. The loner will get chased when it comes out while the others are.

our original alpha male was agressive towards anyone that came near him chasing them off food caves anything....

since selling him - the 2nd in command has been a lot more chilled out but still a little miffed at feeding time....

I think I'm going to watch ours for a while now :)

Ive seen several of my male zebs do this, imo it happens when the female is hanging around the males cave waiting for him to be ready to let her in .Whenever he comes out for food he chases her away as she always trys to sneak in when hes eating. No harm has ever come from this its normally just a little warning chasing her away from the entrance.

I actually watched this for about 30 mins the other day it was very funny the female would get chased away and then approach from the other side of the cave trying to be sneaky lol.

Not sure if this behaviour is the build up to breeding but heres hoping.
