im just having a wee rant about how much i hate snails in my zeb tank.ive tryed an tryed to get rid of them then next day or so theres loads again.i should of soaked my jave b4 i put it in the tank i can prob even point out the jave that was the infiltrator gurrrrrrrrr

i hate snails,any 1 got a number for any snail busters lol

Hi,
i eradicated mine with Brazilian Puffers (Colomesus acellus). Community friendly and good looking at the same time (plus they wont compete for food!)

pufffers with Zebras...? nonono. Try a piece of zucchini (squash) in the tank overnight. it will be full of snails in the morning, then lift the whole thing out.

OR, if you have another cycled tank, move the zebs, and use loaches or puffers to get rid of them.

either method will take some time.

Why the issue with puffers......these are not your average puffer. They tend to shoal, move like wippets and ive kept them with discus, fighters and other fish with "dangly bits".
The only thing i would worry about is if the Zebras breed would be the babies.
My Zebra tank was infested with snails and within two days of adding these i had no snails and fat puffers!

I have, and I've kept them too, although in a species tank which is how they should be kept, just like the Zebra.

That doesn't mean that they can for a period of time, like the Zebra, be kept in a community tank. There's even reports of Zebras having spawned in Malawi tanks, but that is not the norm, but rather exeption.

Like keeping Colomesus asellus in a community tank with success is the exeption and not the norm.

Please don't put Colomesus asellus or any other puffer in with your Zebras.

I have kept them puffers also.

I had about 6 and then added other community live bearers in with them, also i added a red sailfin pleco.

It didnt take long until i had to remove all fish but the puffers as they nipped all of the fins of my fish and especially the pleco.

Colomesus asellus are one of a cople of species that will tolerate other fish. Having said that, all Puffers are very very different, so be ready for carnage . Also be aware that SAP's need continuous crustatcians as food to keep their bill down. They have the fastest growing bill of all Puffers and usually require twice yearly dental work.
