food stick on my fry causing fungus (ick like)

Post by tobalman »

I have 3 very small zebra 3/4" (2 cm), they are in my breeding trap inside 10gal tank, temperature 80 Deg F(27 Deg C),Nitrate Level: 10 ml/l, pH 7.8. regular water change 20% every 3 days.

Here is the problem, I feed my zebra with Decapsulating Baby brine shrimp (non hatching) before light out and I accidentally put but too much of this eggs and some of them some how stay attach to the body of my zebra and due to high temperature the eggs got rotton fast while still on the body of my fish and now on the body and fins of my zebra I can see a few white spots just like ick, but maybe fungus or some sort. Is there anything I could do to recover them ? This was just happened yesterday so I'm not sure if it spread out or not. So are on I did was add some sea salt and partially water change (20%) every 12hr. I now feeding them with New Life Spectrum cichlid formular and they seem to be eating normal.

Thank you.

Thank you.

I'm sorry to hear that. Make sure you also do daily careful water changes to remove as many of the ich cysts before they swarm as possible.

Thank you Barbie

It seem like all the ick are gone now, what I did was at 1 tsp of salt for every gallon of water I did this in the course of 24 hours. During this time I raise the temperature from 80Deg F to 87 Deg F. I will leave the temperature like that for the next few days.

What is the lowest and highest temperature that you have for your fish ? at the normal condition ?

Thank you

Some have raised their tank temperature up to 90 degree Fahrenheit to stimulate spawning. In my tank, I usually keep it around 82-84 degree fahrenheit.

Zebras will definitely handle 90 degrees, no problem. I keep them that warm quite regularly when conditioning. Remember to add additional aeration and water flow to compensate for the lowered oxygen levels.

The salt is definitely probably a wise addition, but those daily water changes do quite a bit towards making sure the fish stay clear of the ich. I can't recommend it enough.
