Filial Generation is about keeping track of inbreeding and crosses when you are line breeding.
The P1 or P generation = unrelated pair parental generation. Could be wild caught but does not have to be. Some people call these "F0's" but that is a non existent term in science
The F1 generation are the offspring from the P generation
The F2 generation are the offspring from mating two siblings from the F1 generation
The F3 generation is mating two siblings from the F2 generation.
Basically this tracks how much inbreeding is being done. After F3 it is time to cross in an unrelated parent and start over with a new P generation
It does get confusing what to call a fish if you mate a P with and F1 ( mother and son etc) The two fish are only 50% same genes instead of the 100% related genes that siblings share
