Advice Please

Post by NeoCult »

Need some advice, i recently did the usual water change, just now while i was looking in the cave with the large male in it guarding his eggs, on the glass i noticed these tine, minute little things swimming about the glass, there white and look like the tinest fish fry you have ever seen, so small i can get a pic, now the only addition to my tank has been some Java moss, is this possible something from it? or anything i need to worry about?

Planaria?

do they look like little worms or kinda like little crabs?

If it is, and as far as I am aware, they live in all freshwater aquariums naturally....but you'll only ever see them when there is an issue with water quality as they naturally reside in the substrate and only venture out when, as I said, there is some issue with water like high nitrites.

What are your water parameters?

They could have come from the plants....although like i said I was under the impression they are part of any aquarium eco-system...it's just with good water we don't even see them but I could be wrong.

I have heard they can also eat eggs....but I'm not absolutely sure.

I had them in my tank a few month ago when it was first started..but they've gone now.

Neo what fish were in with the java moss before you moved it over? The odds are good it's some type of egg scattering fry. I've seen this happen quite a few times. Your zebras won't be in danger, down boy ;). If they don't look like little worms that wiggle really hard when you disturb them, they are probably some type of fry that hatched.

BUT, you CAN have planaria doing daily water changes if you've got uneaten food anywhere in the tank or filters, so it wouldn't hurt to check that too ;).

Neo did you brace up the front of the cave? So it's tipped back? That usually keeps him from throwing out his children quite so easily ;). The fry you saw probably starved without a food source btw. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it!
