L201 Hypancistrus Contradens

Post by John »

I got a group of L201 babies a year ago when they were about 4 months old.
Today i found the first batch of eggs of my L201, the little male is guarding and tending the eggs well in his cave.
I thought they would not breed for at least another half year, the male is only 6 cm.
If the eggs hatch i will get some pics.
Greetings,
John

Well to be honest nothing special, just a 50% wc weekly and a daily feeding of various foods before lights go out.
I was not getting them ready to breed or anything, just growing them.
Greetings,
John

I did use the almondleaves sometimes in this tank when i saw a fish that was a bit scratched after a midnight fight,
but there haven't been any leaves in there the last 2 months.

John

It just goes to show you that if they are happy with their environment they will breed at a young age.Thats what i am hoping with my zebs anyway.

Quick update:

About 20 eggs hatched and 14 died the first 36 hours, i am down to 6 now that seem to be doing ok, i'll keep my fingers crossed though.
6 would not be that bad considering the age of the parents and since it's their first batch.
Greetings,
John

I am sure they will be typical plecos. The trick is to get them going the first time, after that it should be repeated :-)
What makes the common person uncommon is common sense.

No any tricks - low conductivity, and it will be O.K.

Yes, they are wildcaught. They were imported from Colombia on November 2005. The first spawn was 2 months late.
