Zebras for sale

Post by To26000 »

Hi,

I've just posted this against a long thread so thought I would re-post hear just to make sure everyone sees it. :D Sorry to the Mods.

I cannot afford them myself but I though you should know that a West Yorkshire L no specialist was receiving some zebras today (along with alot of other rare catfish. I don't know the exact price but they could be as cheap (RELATIVELY SPEAKING) as £70.00, that was the price mentioned to me earlier on this week by a chap who works there!!!!

Place is Caldervalleykoi

01422836616
City sowerby bridge
County west yorkshire - just off junction 24 of the M62 so easy to find.

Cheers

Thanks Tom, I'll give them a ring to find out more.

Sorry to hear that you can't get any zebras, I hope that your situation changes and that you can get some.

Good luck

Hi Adam

I have just seen they have 10 for sale but I haven't heard an official price for them. I am going to visit tomorrow so will let you know.

I had a group of five L046s for approx. four years. Living arrangements changed so I gave two females to a good friend and sold the other three for just £150! A bargain looking back. No wonder Zerberdy drove up to collect them!!

Thankfully things looking better now so getting back into plecs but cannot push to the prices currently seen. I'm getting some L333s and L260s in the hope of breeding them. If successful will probably get back into zebras. :)

I bet your proud of your colony!! :D

Cheers

Hi Tom,

Keep us posted on those zebras you've found.

It's a real shame that you didn't hang on to your zebras, but I'm confident that you are going to get some more. Remember where there's a will there's a way.

It's good to hear that you're working towards keeping zebras again, I wish you the very best of luck with the other plecs. I guess you're going to breed the L333s and L260s in order to fund the purchase of some zebras.

It's always good when you can make a hobby pay for itself, pretty much like me and my PCs.

My colony is looking good now, I never intentionally set out to get so many. The plan was to get 10 and leave at that. Then I heard about how 25% of zebras never breed and that males are easier to catch in the wild so I thought I better get some more to ensure that I have adequate numbers of both sexes.

Take care.

Hi Adam,

I only ended up getting 6 young L260s with a view to growing on and breeding them. Yes, my thoughts are to use any money generated from breeding these to invest in some Zebras.

Calervalleykoi in West Yorkshire, is the place I visited and it is a trus L no paradise. They have 10 zebras ranging from 6-7cm to 3-4cm. The largest are approx £90 smallest approx £80. I am sure they will go very fast.

If anyone is interested in L nos in general. They have too many to list although the ones I can remember that were particularly attractive fish are L134s , L028s, L260s, L047s, the best 148s I have ever seen and some truely stunning young L128s. I nearly got one of these but had already spent enough for one day on my L260s.

This shop is one of the best I have been too in 20 years of keeping fish. They have an excellent range of normal trops. Lots of Rift valley cichlids and of course a superb range of plecs INCLUDING our beloved L046s!!

Well worth a visit, Junction 24 of the M62 in West Yorkshire.

Cheers

Hi Tom26000,
I too love the L260's.How much were the ones you bought and what size?.
I bought 2 batches recently , 3 from a local fish shop which were the genuine article and 4 mail order which I was pretty dissappointed about as they were a similar fish but not the L260 as I know it.The white lines were very pale and closer together.almost like the L66 with thinner and closer stripes. The background colour was also the same as the L66. I have now found alot of lfs selling this "false" L260.
Hope youre able to get some L46 soon.

Hi Des,

I got 6 for £90 but they are small average size about 4cm. Their markings look very nice already though, even at this size. What price and size were yours when you got them? The place I got mine from Caldervalleykoi had about 10+ more of these L260s but I bet it is too far for your to travel? The guy I spoke to said they are considering mail order in the future which would be good news because they have a great selection of fish.

What set-up are you keeping your L260s in and what foods do you feed.

I realise the early days after getting new plecs is vital to get some food inside of them so any suggests are welcome just incase they are stressed and a bit off their food.

Regarding the L046s, I am sure I'll get some in the not so distant future. The place I want to today has 10 with obvious males and females but at £80+ per fish I cannot afford this at the moment. Plus my girlfriend knows how much these sell for so I can't even sneak a few in using a little white lie.

Cheers

Tom26000,
Hi.The ones like in the picture, were approx 3.5 to 4" and paid £35 each
http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/vie ... d=51356133
The "fakes" cost £17each mail order and were 4 to 5".Would not have bought them if I had seen them before hand.
I currently have them in a quarantine tank and feed them the same as I feed the zebras.ie:Sera spirulina tablets, and Sera normal tablets, jmc protein food (yellow cover)-brilliant food for all types of fish that like a lot of protein, tetra prima, King british flake food , whole frozen mussels and frozen bloodworm occasionaly.
New wild caught fish would have to be started with both types of frozen foods to start of withbefore the others are introduced.
Are you able to get a photo of your L260.
Going to see another importer this week who has some. Hope they are the genuine queen Arabesque's.
Regards,
Des.

Just as an aside here, my female L260 are quite a bit more drably colored than the males. I've also noticed that the patterning isn't as crisp and clean on them as they reach adult size like it was when they were younger. Just something you might check into.
