Baby Zebs do not eat !

Post by duonri »

Help !
My 4 month old Baby Zebs stopped eating 3 days ago !

After the Baby Zebs left the cave (4 month ago) I moved them and raise them in a dedicated small tank as follows:
26L tank
temp= 29C
PH= 6.8
conductivity= mS 110
nitrite, nitrate = 0

Feeding: Grindal, chopped Tubifex.
Water change: 15% every other day.

For the last 3 days they do not eat at all !
What should I do to save the Baby Zebs ?

Thanks !

Hi, so you have not moved them or changed anything to make them stop eating?
I take it there is left over food which makes you think they are not eating?
My guess is they are still eating ok but maybe not as much.
See what others think & keep us posted. :)

No change was made.
No left overs since I clean every day.

Follow up-

I did 80% water change.
Baby Zebs show interest in food, and after half a day start eating eagerly.

Thanks !

White stringy poop is normally associated with internal parasites.

Glad they are eating. Remember zebras spawn with the onset of the rainy season. So the early months of life for baby zebras is in the cleaner water of the annual dry/rainy season cycle. They have the best water conditions during their initial growth phase.

Over the years I have heard of all sorts of reasons for fish dying. The one thiong I have never heard or read is fish dying because their water was too clean.

Absolutly !

But that's strange, water parameters looked good.

BTW:
Do you think rounded Lava rocks are safe for baby Zebs, regarding water parameters ?

Thanks !

Lava rocks are not a good choice imo. Their surface is kinda like course sandpaper. I have never seen them rounded.

I have collected rounded lava rocks from a river.
Water parameters will be affected ?

Test them. First, pour something acidic on them. Vinegar if nothing else is available. If the rock fizzes, it will effect params. If not do a 2nd test. Fill a bucket with water, dechlor it and check the parameters after running an airstone on it for a couple of hours. Then put a rock or two into the bucket and let the airstone run. Check the water every couple of days for about a week. If the params are stable the rock should be safe.
