Re: anyone use lights in tank ? with zebs
I ran lights on my zebra tanks for a couple of years. But I had a few plants in them then. Now they have been basically plantless and lightless the past 18 months. It reduced algae issues and saves some on the elec bill. As long as the zebras have lots of cover I do not think they care.
What makes the common person uncommon is common sense.

I think that if you want to turn on the tank light for an hour or 2 a day to watch them I think they would be ok with that. I keep mine un-lit, they just get light from all the other tanks in my fish room.

I don't use lights on my zeb tanks or any of my other 16 plec tanks either, only for maintenance

I am going to mention that my male has gotten quite used to the flashlight shined into his cave from time to time. They are like most other fish and adapt quite well to most anything.

I use lights all the time. They are on for approx 4-5hrs a day/night.
I use a TMC tile.
Is it better then to not have any light on the tank?

I have 5 Zebs in a 5 foot aquarium with 2 x L129 & some Ember Tetras, Green Neons,
& Mountain Minnows + 8 pygmy corydoras.
The lights turn on at 1130 and off at 2300.
Watching the zebs I have noticed that they come out of thier
Caves most when the lights are on.
I have watched when the lights are out and they definately stay
In the caves more when the lights are out.
