What is everyone water conditions like for breeding Zebras

Post by I_Need_Zebras »

Hi all, just would limke to know what everyone else's water conditions and setups are, here is mine:

I have a 36" x 12" x 15" with an Ehiem Wet/dry external filter, and 2 x 1200LPH internal filters.

Tank Conditions:
PH 6.64 (held there by API PH 6.5 buffer)
TDS 243
Temp: 29.3oC
The tank is full of bogwood and Indian Almond Leaves (x3).

Is is possible if anyone else can share there water conditions, as my fish have had a 2 year sleep from breeding and would like to see if my water is ok.

Hi There

This is a tricky one as the parameters can vary immensley. I have always beleived that so long as the parameters are roughly correct the breeding depends on water quality and whether or not the fish are "interested".

However, as a rule my tanks were genreally sitting at around the following parameters:
Temp: 84 - 86F - For Breeding
pH: 6.3 - 6.8
Gh: 5 - 8 (I found this to be less relevant)
Kh: 4 - 6 (I found this to be less relevant)

Highest priority for me was high flow rate and highly oxygenated water. I would quite often find that a good waterchage would induce a spawn, but only if the fish had shwon previous interest.

Have you tried introducing a new fish to the colony?
