is tank lighting a necessary

just in the seting up tank process of getting plecs and was just wondering is tank lighting needed as read afew posts with people who have no lighting on tanks just relay on natural room light any help greatly appreciated

The lighting is only needed so you can see and if you have live plants. In the wild zebras live where it is very dark.

many thanks,have got lighting in tank just want to do what the zebs prefer
