I think I read somewhere the water volume turnover rate should be 5-8 eight times an hour.

My filter turnover rate is a little better than 7.5 times an hour and the ZP seem happy with it. Someone else, Barbie, Rob, McEve, Adam or others who have more experience may offer a different opinion. I'm still learning.

Most of the big canister filters claim they filter way more water than the flow rates most of us strive for. I honestly rarely even check the actual "rate" anymore, I just look to see if it looks like enough water movement. I know, quite scientific of me ;). As I sit here doing the math, that usually means I end up with about 10 times an hour turnover in the tanks ;).

I wouldn't worry at all about that canister making a jacuzzi or anything. You'll have a spray bar to diffuse some of the directionality and in my opinion, there's no such thing as too much filtration. I would honestly be tempted to also run a small sponge prefiltered powerhead in addition, in case your filter should ever quit running. That way you won't lose all of your biological bacteria. Canister filters are fantastic filters, as long as they aren't the only source of filtration and you have a power outage. They go anaerobic pretty quickly.

I think you will be good. The flow rate is 925gph on that filter correct? I run two Fluval 404s on my 75 gallon planted tank with no issue. So if I can run 800gph on a planted tank you can for sur run 925gph on a catfish tank.
