My first Spawn
My first Spawn
On Wedensday last week i found three wigglers in the sand in my zebra tank, by accident
I put them in a breeder for the time being

The next day two were dead, due to fungus.
Only one left(pic below)

I guess they were kicked out, as the father did not expected them to survive

But one did
The behaviour of the zebras lets me to believe that there are more zebra babies in one of the caves. Let's hope there are many zebra babies on the way, that would really be something

Is there anyone who wants to guess how many days they were when i found them?
The youlk sack is almost used up, and temp is 32°C
All this happens a month after i video taped a new fight in the zebra tank

Congratulations, from the looks of it the fry is about a day old the male probably kicked them out due to another male tryingto get in the cave, the male looks very beat up if that was the male. It should be time to check out the cave for more fry ,you can tell if there are still fry in the cave when the male still constanly fan, tail shaking side to side and pectoral fins fluttering lastly he would be mouthing the eggs a constant up and down motion of the head "nodding" these are also the signs of a male trying to invite females in his cave without the nodding gesture.
I don't think i have the heart to look for fry in the cave, he needs the experience to nurture his own offspring in order to become a good father, and the less I know the better it is
If they are given peace, maybe-just maybe i find even more fry in the tank when i return from holiday, or none...
All this had to happened just before I am going away, it is so typical
I am off to holiday next week, and will be gone a fortnight, i know i have to let the fry out of the breeder, and maybe he/she will survive.

Congratulations Sharko
Sorry it has taken me so long to post. It must be somethin in the air right now!!!
If there are some fry in the cave they will probably stay in there for 6 days or so before venturing out.
Just make sure you keep the substrate clean, to increae their chances of survival when they do decide to explore.

Hi Sharko,
I doubt that either of your fry will develop the bullnose trait. It seems to show at a very young age, even before they have fully absorbed the yolk sac. I'm afraid that one of my fry is almost definately a "bullnose", I will post up some pictures soon of the poor flat faced fella. None of my adults display the "bullnose" trait so I would think that it is not hereditary in origin, I suspect that it is caused by environmental factors as was suggested the last time this topic was discussed.
The only thing that I can think of that caused it was the conductivity of my water at the time was in excess of 400Ms. I was in the process of lowering it but the zebras spawned before it was sufficiently low. It would be interesting to see what happens when they next spawn, my conductivity ranges between 120Ms to 150Ms at present and my Ph is 6.8.
I thought your article was excellent by the way, great pictures. Any plans on translating it into english, I'm sure that the members here would be interested.
Regards.
Adam
