My First Spawn

Post by khrister »

I started collecting these beautiful striped pl*cos about 4-5 months ago.
Started with 7 and end up with 27 total. Latest additions was about 2 months ago. I was not paying attention to these lately. Just doing routine water changes, feeding regularly and not looking inside their caves as much.

Today I decided to take a peak and I just noticed, one of my males has been guarding FRY... I'm stoked !!!

Nice work- amazing how a change of tank (read that water params) can get them started.

Hey Jojo,

That is great news. Soon you will have a swarm of babies. So did you rearrange the setup with new caves?

Thanks everyone!

Hey Saul, dunno about the new breeder, I think I just got lucky and my Zebs are mature enough to breed.

Ken I did not do any re-arranging I still have all of them in a 55g. All cramped in a pyramid looking cave formation

Congrats on the spawn... I know the surprise feeling you are having. I had a first spawn just recently and counldnt believe it. I guess the best feeling is when they breed and you least expect them too. Good luck with them.

Male trapping Female

So last week the male sitting on a clutch of FRY trapped a female in his cave. I was a bit worried since he got the female in there for more than 5 days. Last Wednesday I did a water change and somehow the female was able to get out. This morning she's back in the same cave. Is this normal?

Congrats on your spawn, its perfectly normal, I have females that do the biz in a day & others that yo-yo in & out & no results for days ,weeks & months!
A few weeks ago I had 2 females in the males cave, but this resulted in nothing, he has one of the females back in now so fingers crossed, there all different.
