Santa Strikes Again- 2nd Spawn

Post by TwoTankAmin »

WOW- and HOLY COW-

I have been sick with a cold all week and mostly ignoring the fish and tanks. But for some reason I just decided to do a cave check. To my delight and amazement I just discovered fatty atop a clutch of eggs. More amazing he is using a clamshell type cave made from terra cotta pot pieces. This is the first spawn in this cave as well as the first one in a non slate cave.

So the alpha male is on wigglers and fatty is on eggs. Santa has struck again. I think I can actually get some pics of it all since this is not a typically tight slate cave they have used til now. If I don't collapse back into bed I will try and grab some shots.

Maybe that's what I should do with the zebs! (Ignoring them might do wonders!)
But TT, keep away from me, don't want to catch the flu!

Merry Christmas!! Maybe you will bring some luck to our Zebs too (I did a water change after a snowstorm....maybe that will get them going).

Which brings up a good point. When is the best time to do those water changes? As the storm is coming in, during, or after?

Also, how big of a water change and what type of water and what temp?

I just follow my normal wc routine- that is 40-50% weekly. I actually temp match the new water to the tank temp. Many folks swear by cooler water, I have never used this method. As for the timing my best guess is as it approaches or during, though sometimes shortly after- ie inside 12-24 hours has worked too.
