Hi my zebras stopped after 10 months of continuous breeding, so while i wait and hope they start up again i figured i would post a few pics

These guys are a little stressed as i had them in a little 2.5 gallon tank as the tank i was moving them into had a few issues for almost a week, and i tried not to feed them to much in the little tank.

These are the last 3 batches i pulled out before the breeding stopped. The big one is 1 3/4"-2" and is from one of my first spawns. I would leave all the babies in with the parents until the tank looked too crowded and strip the tank down catch and remove the babies. I was always worried they would stop breeding, but with every teardown they never stopped breeding until this last tank teardown.

Hi thanks
Good luck with your spawn, a little patience and I am sure your zebs will come through.

Remember- these are seasonal spawners. So they should stop.

In tanks the cycle may not be a year since we can control conditions. I found mine had about a 13 month cycle with about 8.5 on and 4.5 off. This went on for 3 cycles and then they stopped over almost 2.5 years before resuming recently.

Hi TwoTankAmin

Wow you must be patient guy.HaHa!!! To have a 2.5 year break from breeding would have drove me crazy trying to get them to start up again :frustrated:

Did you ever try to convince them into breeding by doing the water and temp thing? We usually get some good spring storms out here so i was gonna try playing with water changes when the next pressure system comes along. I tried this before without success, but I probably did something wrong.

This bit of info will help me to wait it out tho if they do not start breeding anytime soon. Hopefully not 2.5 years long of a wait. I really could not find too much on the net about times between spawning.

Thanks
Bob

Yes I tried it all. Then I gave up. I have loads of l450 fry and contradens fry and have P compta wigglers. But the restart of the zebs made my year.

Congratz on all the fry. The L 450 is a nice looking fish are they any easier to breed then the zebras? While i am waiting on my zebs to get going i might have to look at trying some other plecos to breed.

Are the zebras spawning again? If they were mine I would try some worms! Earthworms or blackworms always get my fish into spawning mood within a day or 2 and they just keep spawning for awhile but eventually they stop. I can feed them some worm and they will be at it again. (I do not yet have any zebra plecos tho)

Hi sorry i have not been on the site for a while.
My zebs seemed to have lost complete interest in breeding. i have tried using earthworm flakes and pellets but nothing seems to get them going again.

Well what do you know, not sure how i missed this but they did start again. I ve got wigglers. Not the best pic, but the best i could do with a cel phone. Whoo Hoo!!!
I can not tell for sure if its because i changed up their diet but it sure looks like it.
