Experiences buying plants online?

If it's about fish in general, or it's a little bit random, then this is the place to post it.

Experiences buying plants online?

Post by canedog »

I haven't found great selection/ condition of plants locally, so I'm considering buying plants online for a new tank. Has anyone here done this? Any particular site(s) you recommend for or against? I'm thinking about 'aquariumplants.com' if that helps. Thanks, CD

I've ordered from a few places online. http://www.aquabotanic.com is owned by a guy in Oregon, so shipping would be both fast, and cheaper. I've ordered from him quite a few times.

I agree- I have ordered from Robert at AquaBotanioc a few times over the years. He has a a nice selection of some of the more unusual plants, esp for high light tanks.

Another site you can poke around at is http://www.aquariumgarden.com/
What makes the common person uncommon is common sense.

Thanks Barbie and TTA. AquaBotanioc has everything I was looking for and gave me a few more ideas to boot. It's hard to beat a tried-n-true site with neighbor-state shipping. The only downside is now I'm tempted to start a high-light tank too! CD

Barbie has all the hook-ups!

I've also had good experiences buying plants on AquaBid.com

Thanks for the additional sources for plants :)

Join plantedtank.net and look in the Swap & Shop section. You will find members selling plants or plant trimmings. You may even find people GIVING plants away. Plus the forum is a good reference for issues/questions regarding planted tanks. I'm also a member on there.

Thanks again for the info. I went with AquaBotanic and the plants arrived in good condition. The potted Annubias nana narrow leaf were in awesome shape (densely foliaged) and almost immediately started blooming in my tank!

I'll take a look at plantedtank.net too. Heck, I have to believe anyone named crazy.eddie knows where the deals are!

I once ordered from that fish place and had received a large order for a dutch tank I used to have. They came in average to good condition.
