Cracked Exhaust manifold.

If it's about fish in general, or it's a little bit random, then this is the place to post it.

Cracked Exhaust manifold.

Post by Adam »

Another day off work, supposed to be working from home. Done some this morning and will finish the rest off this evening.

I cracked my exhaust manifold during a burnout with a Nissan Skyline last week . I'm off to my mates garage to see if he can weld it if not it will have to be replaced.

It so happens that there are a couple of LFSs not far from the garage and guess what one of them has some zebras. With any luck I'll get the exhaust sorted and maybe pick up a couple of zebras too. :D

Ad i think you seriously need help, you cant keep buying zebras like this, you will be remortageing the house soon or moving in to a swimming pool so you can house your 1000 collection of zebbys  and your all be eating your dinner off floats with zebras swimming in between your toes

p.s do you know anything off tuning engines as i feel like giving my bmw some loving care and feels a little chuggy at times?

Dan,

A thousand zebras, now that would be a sight. I am starting to slow down on the zebra purchases, I didn't end up getting any today.

It was a bit of a waste of a day really, I have to take the car back on Friday to get the work done as it's a bigger job than my mate thought. Went to the LFS to get some zebras but the manager was off for the day and the numpty left in charge didn't know me. He was trying to sell them to me for £125 each, the manager usually lets me have them for £100 each. I ended uip going to another LFS and I got that Seachem ammonia alert and 8 C.Sterbai, I got them for £4 each which is a good deal as I paid double that for the last lot.

There's a few things you can do to the Bimmer. Use Shell Optimax, the higher octane content should help with performance. Get yourself a performance airfilter K & N or Apexi. If you want to spend a bit more you can get a bigger bore exhaust so that back pressure can be decreased, I got an extra 15 BHP when I did this. Have a look for performance spark plugs mine are iridium tipped. Platinum tipped ones may be ok for your car, check it out first. A better spark will give you better fuel combustion and hopefully an increase in power. There's a lot you can do on a Scooby as the engine is turbo charged and it's de-tuned for road use. The same is not true of normally aspirated engines, however you can achieve quite a bit with some careful research. I've managed to squeeze my Scooby upto 300BHP.

Definatly. Do it all at once though, rather than bits at a time, as you'll really notice a huge difference. I'd do what adam said too, stainless exhuast, filter, chip, fuel presure regulator.

Dan,

When you say chip do you mean replacing the manufacturers Engine Control Unit(ECU). Personally I wouldn't do this, It's far better to have the ECU re-mapped. Basically a laptop is plugged into the unit and it is reprogrammed for an increase in power, make sure you use a specialist.
I doubt very much that the "chips" you have seen on ebay are ECUs as they cost hundreds. I had an ECUTEK remap done on my car and it cost over £700, it takes about 2 hours and can be done at your home or place of business. I'm not sure if they do non-turbo charged cars.

You should notice an immediate increase in power but in order to really harness the extra power the other mods will be needed. However you don't have to do them all at the same time. An ECU remap is usually combined with a big bore exhaust upgrade.

No dont go the ebay route man, go to superchips and get it done by the pros. What year is your bemmer? Id get the other mods done first then get the chip, that way they will set your motor up to complemnt your mods.
