How big is a territory

If it's about fish in general, or it's a little bit random, then this is the place to post it.

How big is a territory

Post by DANthirty »

I was just wondering if you guys could tell me how big a fishies territory would be, is it just the cave or is it a certain area around the cave as well?

Hi Dan.

I dont actually think that a territory is a measurable kinda thing.

I would say its where ever the fish feels most comfortable and safe.....whether that is a cave, log, rock or any other nook or cranny. Then there will be a set barrier (set by the fish) where it will allow others to enter before they feel under threat.....so much so they will defend their own little space/territory.

Hard question to answer....but I bet someone does a better job of it than I have. Out of curiosity I entered it into the Dictionary.com and got back this definition... "An area occupied by a single animal, mating pair, or group and often vigorously defended against intruders, especially those of the same species."
