Re: Hi everyone! Questions!

First of all, welcome to the site. A 25 would be fine for a pair of zebras. I keep 5 in a 20 long with no problems and no other fish. Too big of a tank and they might have trouble finding food as they usually will not scavenge far for food. They also do not compete well for food, so any other fish y...

Re: slate or stones what are people using ??

I use slate, marble and ceramic for the caves, and I bought some nice natural slate on AB that I make to all sizes for layers and cliff looks. Good luck.

Re: 77 G enough for 10 Zebras?

I would say that that size tank is plenty big enough for 10 full grown (which won't happen for quite a while, mind you !) zebras. You don't want the tank too big, as they don't scavenge far for food. I have 10 sub adults in a 40 gal breeder, and they seem to be doing fine, having been in there for c...

Re: Please Help

Hey Paul, welcome to the site. First off, does your son realize that when you get zebra plecos, if they are happy, he may never see them ? Very reclusive fish. That said, there are quite a few people breeding them. I would suggest you check out Plecoworld.org. There is an importer there named Saul (...

Re: breeding caves

A lot will depend on where you are located. Here in the states there are many places to find caves: plecocaves.com, Rosenthalpottery, zcliff (that's his screen name and you can find him on AB or plecoworld.org). Texasholeyrock (AB seller) makes a nice cave also. Good luck.

Re: What filter are you using?

I use 2 HOB filters on my zebra tank (as well as all my pleco breeding tanks), an AC 70 and an Emperor 280.

Re: what filters are best for zeb tank ??

Well, for my zebra tank, which is a 40 gal breeder, I use 2 HOB filters. I use an AquaClear 70, mounted on 1 end of the tank, and an Emperor 280, hung on the back. I actually use this setup for all 4 of my pleco breeding tanks. Good luck.

Re: My 2 WC adult L046

Very nice pics of some very nice fish. I found that once I turned off my tank lights and just had lights from the room on, my zebras have become much more visible. Now I only turn on the tank lights when I am working on the tank. Good luck.

Re: 40B setup

I know some breeders who like to put down a thin layer of sand to protect against just what you mentioned. Sometimes a "film" develops on the bottom. Currently, I have 0 breeding going on, so it is not yet an issue for me. And I know just as many breeders, if not more, that have never had ...

Re: 40B setup

Got to agree with the above statement. I have bare bottoms on all my pleco breeding tanks (4). My community tank has gravel, but the bare bottoms are so much easier to keep clean. I started my breeders with bare bottoms, didn't like the way they looked (I was a noob, and an old school noob at that !...

Re: A quick Tank question...

First, welcome to the site. Next, have you cycled your tank ? Very, very important to do, especially if it is a newly set up tank. There are many articles on the net about cycling your tank, so if it has not yet been cycled, you may want to read up on the process. I am not absolutely positive about ...

Re: Setting up Zebra Tank

Yep, looks good. I use lights on my tank as the room that the tank is in is completely dark (unless the room lights are turned on, of course). I have my lights on about 7 hours a day, and the longer I have them, the more they come out in the light. Good luck.
