And you're sure the ammonia and nitrite levels were 0 the whole time? IMO that tank is WAY too young to have baby zebras. Do you have another mature tank in the house? Zebras are very sensitive to the cycyling process and either ammonia or nitrites present in trace amounts would keep the fry from e...

It's 3 weeks old now; but they were introduced when it was two weeks old. At that time neither of them showed any signs of distress, both were hiding away under/in the driftwood.

I have black sand; I have a lot of MTS (over 50) in the substrate to aerate it. I didn't see any H2S gas bubble up. I've never seen him eat; I know Zebra's are shy but there should at least be droppings or the food tablet should move from it's original place (that's what the other one does). But tha...

What temperature was the tank? What else is in it? How large is it? What were you trying to feed? I assume ruled out means there was no ammonia at all? What is the pH of the tank? Do you modify it in any way? I seriously doubt it was parasites. I've received wild plecos just loaded with parasites a...

Juvenile Death!

Today I woke up to find that my 1 week (4 month old) introduction has died; but for some reason I wasn't surprised, but nonetheless dismayed. :( From day one he was always in hiding; I never saw him out at all nor did I believe he was eating. Whenever I checked up on him, he looked rather scrawny an...

Cories love eating fish eggs whenever they get the chance; I used to lose a lot of my Apisto and Ram eggs whenever I kept them with Cories. As for shrimp; I don't see any harm. The only shrimp I wouldn't use is Amano shrimp, for they are pretty brave and won't hesitate to steal food away from Zebra'...

I just added eight juvenile Cherry shrimp to my 20G long to do the same thing; they just started sifting through the sand to get all of the uneaten food. :D

Do you notice if they actually compete with the Zebra's for food? I mean not adult Zebras, but juveniles? Or do they steer clear of there path?

Discus have also been known to secrete allopathic hormones (only the alpha male does) to slow down the growth of his competitors. That is why Discus breeders/keepers must keep up with regular water changes. Maybe the alpha Zebra pleco does the same? Nitrates over 20ppm are the only cause for concern...

They are all captive bred? That's great considering they're threatened. Here are some articles that should help: http://www.plecofanatics.com/forum/index.php?page=sexing_zebra_pleco http://www.zebrapleco.com/article2.php I suggest you get two trios; (1M:2F). The reason being only the alpha male will...

To Plant or Not?

I recently setup a 20G long; all it has is black sand and some branchy driftwood; but I've always been fond of aquatic plants - so should I plant it or leave it bare? Do Zebra's prefer their tanks without plants (I'm guessing so since they are found in really deep water)? :?

A good way to prevent ammonia, nitrite and nitrate shocks is with Seachem Purigen; it removes DOCs before they have a chance to be converted into ammonia, etc.
