Asolene Spixi snails will eat hydra. They won't do great in warmer waters, but for temporary use they work great.

Without seeing a picture, I'd guess it is iron. This may not be a problem depending on other factors - such as having plants in the tank, the size or percentage of iron in the spot, etc. I have several pieces of schist (simialr to slate) with visible iron spots in them and it has not posed any probl...

I have LOADS of cherry shrimp in my tank to help clean - they do a fine job. I also have some assassin snails and 2 dwarf puffers (all to take care of the unwanted pest snails). I also have 17 runnynose tetras. All is well too - everyone leaves everyone else alone - although I hear I just got lucky ...

I grew out my 7 zebras in a 10 gallon tank for almost year - an they seemed (and still do seem) perfectly happy and healthy. I think you might get into problems with a 30 gallon tank and only two small zebras - they might not venture to all parts of the tank and leave uneaten food. That is, unless y...

This is a thread to another member who induced spawing via a rainy season who raised TDS to 600ppm, then dropped them to 100ppm.

I thought the GH needed to get above 600ppm. I am no expert, I haven't tried to dry/rainy season my zebras yet.

So, as someone who is ready for thier zebras to breed - any words of wisdom? Did you do anything special to trigger the first spawn? Anything to trigger subsequent spawns? Water paramaters, lighting, setup, anything you could share would be VERY much appreciate by those who are super-jealous of your...

I am interested to see what others have to say about this as well. My alpha and beta males take to caves. The alpha has his favoirte cave, but tends to move around. The beta hangs out in almost all the caves - no real preference. I have another (which I also suspect is a female) which will hang out ...

GlockFu - I follow the weighted average concept - that is what I was trying to articulate (poorly!). Now here are my next questions - during "dry season" when raising TDS - I assume you do not top off the tank due to evaporative loss? I live in Arizona (desert) so that might be tricky. Nex...

I'm intersted in the math you were talking about to do the TDS changes. Is it just simple ratios - X gallons at a TDS of Y, want to get to X gallons at a TDS of Z? I assume the same rules apply with increasing the TDS as well, correct? When you do the first TDS drop do you try to go from 600 to 100 ...

I have some RO right and *might* try to get mine to spawn once I have a litte more time, until then they will be left to thier own devices! Over what time period do you raise the TDS from 100 too 600, then how quickly did you drop it? How frequently did you do water changes for the rainy season? Did...
