Cool. My 1st zeb bought was fortunate to be a female, the 2nd zeb a male. Too bad there's probably no chance of them breeding. My only hopes are the new juveniles a bought a few weeks ago will fill in as the dominant male.

I added a closeup headshot to see if it will help. I will try to take more photos of Zebra #1, so it can be a confirmed female.

Yes, Zebra #1 stays in the cave. I remembered reading an article on here somewhere that the female tries to seduce the male into here cave by curling inside it. Well, that's what it does all the time. The original cave was actually just a trial I made before and was small. Since it is has grown allo...

I edited my original post and added 2 more photos. I don't like disturbing the zebras, so I took the opportunity to take a photo of them when I give the bigger zebra a bigger cave.

Good article, but I haven't heard much from it. I wonder if it was just a concindence. I use Black Beauty sand, though not as small as sand, but supposedely about the size of pool filter sand, and I never had any problems with shrimps and fish, especially my zebras with it. Also, the article was way...

Substrate preference: Black or white sand?

I currently house my zebs (in a planted tank with shrimps) using a local sand called Black Beauty. It's larger than typical sand, which I've been told, looks like pool filter sand. I have a chance to obtain some black sand blasting sand, which is very fine black sand. Both my zebs are in a 20 gallon...

I doubt bamboo shrimps will eat the eggs. They are filter feeders, feeding off the water column. My bamboo shrimps occupy some caves also, but fortunately, I have more caves that L46.

I used the frozen cooked shrimp and slightly thawed it. It sinks quickly for me. Unfortunately, my zebs don't seem to care for it, though the Red Cherry Shrimps do.

Regarding power backup, have anyone of you considered buying a generator instead or maybe in addition to the UPS? Generators would probably costs the same as a decent UPS. A UPS will probably not run as long when using aquarium equipment, unless you don't connect the heater. Plus the generator can a...

Basically it's your preference. IMO, BB maybe easier to clean, but looks plain. I like a sandy like substrate, because it looks more natural. Zebras in a planted tank with RCS (Red Cherry Shrimps) and other shrimps are easier to maintain, since no cleaning is required. I keep zebras in a planted tan...

I like the look of granite, as opposed to slate. If you could get a deal on granite, go for it. I'm sure zebras don't care if it's the shiny side in or out. It's your preference. The only problem with slate is that it could split, but it's cheap. I've always wanted to make slate caves, but the cost ...

I only have 2 zebs, which are still juveniles. One is about 1.5", the other about 2". Here's my experience with them... 1. I originally had them in a 10 (US) gallon BB tank with slate caves. The bottoms and backs were painted black. They were the only inhabitants in the tank. The tank was ...
