I do weekly 20% water changes - Nitrates are 25 - although the tap water is sometimes up to 30 so the nitrates are about 50 when this happens. The algae carpets everything including plants - I have a moss ball, and three plants in there - lights are on for 5 hours a day - tank is not in direct sunli...

Thanks for that, Jojoyojimbi

Is it because it's a small tank and no substrate - can anybody help with any suggestions, other than using an 'algae scraper'

I have added plants, a moss ball, left the lights off - still have a problem. I don't know what else to do as I don't w...

If it looks like fungus on a wound, I would treat with Melafix and Pimafix. They are natural medications and very effective.

Beautiful looking zebras. I am in the same position, two zebras, don't have a clue if they are two males/females or one of each. They are about two years old now and one looks larger than the other although, I think they are the same age. I very rarely see them except possibly the back end!! Sometim...

I run three Eheim external filters 2 x Pro II 2026 and one 2126 (with internal heater). They are excellent, quiet and efficient. I also run three Juwel internal filters as back-up. When I first had the filters I cleaned them out, as recommended, after 6 months although I found that they did not need...

I've had two Otos in with my zebras at 84 degrees for the last year and they are fine although I'm not convinced they are good algae eaters. They seem to eat the zebra food more than the algae :) I don't know about the shrimps, interesting though, I would certainly like to have a few if they were av...

Hi, I also purchased two from Shirley Aquatics about the same time. I was told they were Wild Caught from Brazil. They had them in quarantine for a few months before putting them up for sale. I got the information from the Manager there at the time so, although I feel it is correct, I can't be 100% ...

Congratulations - it just shows you never can tell the sex until they spawn - or not!!

I'm looking forward to seeing the pics - I'm also going to read your previous posts again to see how you triggered them as it looks as though once they start you can't stop them

Don't be too hard on The Buddy, we all started out as some stage. I am sure we have all made mistakes and, I am just pleased that he is questioning everything to ensure he gets it right. Buddy, I have used Stress Coat for some years now as a dechlorinator and I have always found that it does a good ...

Sorry to hear you have a few with the Bulldog syndrome - did you 'pull your fry' or left them with Dad the whole time.

Bye the way they still look amazing and you've done well.
