The horsepower is 600 gallons per hour being filtered. As it is, I'm filtering the whole system 4 times per hour. UV is built into the filter unit at 11 watts. I'm estimating 10 more tanks, combinations of 20 gals, 30 gals and 40 gals. Oh, yeah...I forgot....just installed a 1800w DC back up power s...

Monster pond filter for Zebras?

..well sort of...I have a 55 gal acting as a sump, partioned in 3: from Right to left, the pump to filter chamber, here is where all the 20 gal long tanks drain, the middle has lava rocks and doubles as a refugium and the last chamber is the return to the tanks. The filter is a Laguna Pressure Flo 7...

Test all water parameters, pH, Temp, Ammonia, Nitrate, Nitrites. I would add a lot more hidding places, like slate stones, rather than caves...they won't be using them for a long time. Small zebras prefet to hide in other places. If your water parameters are ok & do regular water changes & f...

If I was you, I wouldn't feel guilty about something I can't control: Economics; the Demand and the Supply will determine the correct price. If you go lower than that, then it is your lost. If you go higher, you won't have any customers. Years ago, I bought from KKorotev at $125 apiece. About one we...

I get what you are saying about duplicating everything (you can do that in a big tank as well) The part that scares me about central filtration is that all water is connected and if one tank would break, all the tanks would be drained. I guess it would only drain to the water level of the intake va...

Interesting concept...too bad it is not available in the US. I could probably used it for some applications. Meanwhile, I will experiment with this DIY project:

As you can see they really could not fight as they were always too busy with their own spawn to worry about what other couples might be up to. Hey TTA; somewhere I read that you have plans to change from a 30 gal to a bigger setup? any reason for that? How many adults would you expect to put there,...

I wish I could get that ratio of 1M/3-4F  not easy to come by. I might be wrong, but from what I've seen Zebras in nature (or at least in captivity) seem to occur more on a 1m/1f ratio....you figure...

Re: 20 gal long...good enough?

If you have a central filtration system and something goes wrong, wont that affect all your tanks? Or is there some set up to help prevent this? Well, what can go wrong is a disease outbreak or temperature change. I got my system in such a way, that any given tank can be isolated individually if so...

. I have always kept all my breeders in one tank. There are 11 now and were as many as 13. The tank is a 30 breeder. When things are hopping there are also in excess of 50 assorted fry in there as well. Normally there are 15-25 fry left in the tank.. I hear you TTA, but I would be so scared of leav...

20 gal long...good enough?

Ok guys, I got four 20 gal long tanks (30"x13"x13") in a central filtration system, bottom level is a 55 gal sump/refugium. Here's the deal: the top 2 tanks have 8 growing Zebras on each, ranging in size of 1.25" to about 2". The middle tanks are same size, but contains othe...

While re-arranging a piece of driftwood over 3 caves, a fight followed amongst 2 youngster to see who would be Alpha & have sole rights over the rounded cave. It got so vicious I almost had to separate them. So this is the winner! Who says you can't sex males at 2.5 inches! LOL http://img3.freei...

I finally told him I was raised to be truthful and honest and expected to be treated this way. BTW, I bought 6 L333 from him. Live and learn! Bonnie Wow Bonnie...that was a close call. At least you got your monies back. This is not the first time somebody tried to make $$ out of the zebra craze. I ...

watching them with binoculars

I know this sounds a bit silly, but as we all know all Zebras are shy, specially if you are right in front of the tank. As a result, you won't see them much, since they will swim for cover. I got my setup of 4- 20 gal long tanks (only 2 are with zebras) in a garage, with no windows. To simulate dayl...
