Interesting topic, although probably heart-wrenching seeing them die without a possible reason. Do you run your UV sterlizer 24/7? I have heard that running it 24/7 can weaken the fish's immune system as they gradually (overtime) lose their ability to fight off viruses, parasites they would normally...

thank you Jojoyojimbi, so i guess i have to wait for those blisters to disappear right? See this thread: http://www.zebrapleco.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2283 I had something similar on both his fins, they both fell off while trying to capture him and then I applied iodine. Somehow his fins also rot...

I left him alone. I promise! I was talking to Kevin and he doesn't believe taking a little peek will disturb him that much, it's his expierence that causes him to make those mistakes. With time he'll get better, just don't mess with them. He also advised I use softer water next time - anyone ...

Unfortunately he ate most of them and then proceeded to kick two fertile eggs out the door. And the egg shells on the two eggs ended up rupturing. I'm disappointed no doubt, but I understand it's part of the learning process for the male. Eventually he will master it, it's just dishearte...

And They've Done It!
Unlike the other embarrasing thread, this time they've finally done it! :D TDS: 370ppm gH: 6 kH: 2 Temp: 84-86F Possible Triggers: This one is tough. They've been with me for 3 weeks now and all I did was do weekly WC's. However, when I acclimated them the TDS was 520ppm and then I did a cold WC and...
Tumor?
Today while checking up on my Zebras I noticed one of them had a whitish-reddish growth on both tips of his of pectoral fins. I freaked out and decided to capture him and photograph it for possible causes and cures. Can anyone tell me what this is and how to cure it? The tumor on the right fin broke...

Hi eklikewhoa, I too use a 20L for my colony and I actually have an Eheim 2213, an Odyssea CF 4 (250gph) and a Maxi-Jet 400 powerhead running on it and the flow is not that strong at all. I just started feeding frozen bloodworms last week and I just throw in the frozen popsicle into the tank and as ...

This is rather odd; I believe the two that were in the alpha's cave were actually males. I think it was a battle for hierarchy as the smallest one (who was inside for the 1st night) is a definite male and moved into the second cave. While the larger one, who came in the second day, has lost some str...

Not only that, but when there is only one male in the colony and too many females - breeding is less likely to occur, IMO. The female chooses the best possible mate and if there is only one male there is no way he will assert his dominance and prove to the females that he is infact the best choice. ...

Well the drama continues! There is a threesome unfolding before my very eyes. Not sure if they are all males, but I fear the worst might happen. First, what I suspect was a female went zooming into the male's cave and he reluctantly let her into the back of his cave - all the action seemed to attrac...

I think I have my first L46 spawn!!!
Well this story is unbelieveable, yesterday I finally got my first colony from Curtis (aka LyreTail). I wake up today to do a head-count and make sure everyone if settling in and there's one missing. I look in their usual hiding places and then there's a thought at the back of my head saying she jus...
