quick question (if I may), is there an option here where I can get an email notification when someone posts on my subscribed threads?

A second hello from Toronto, Canada

Hey guys I am not really "new" as I joined a while ago, but now that I have got back into zebras, I thought it would be good to introduce myself since I will be a lot more active on here. I originally had a group of 7 zebs for 2 years (though I only had 1 female in that group....good ratio...

Re: bare bottom or subtrate ? which is best

unless you have very high current, or if the current is blasting directly onto the sand, I wouldnt worry about sand blowing around. Like said before, I always use substrate, something that still allows for easy cleaning but give the zebs something to dig around. As for breeding, I know a lot of bree...

ya, I was actually thinking of the slate tiling technique, though I am leaving it as a last resort kinda thing. I am currently trying to plan/theorize the best way to create/minic the natural environment of Rio Xingu. When the debris gets trapped, do you have any tips on how to go about cleaning it?

cleaning gravel?

Hey So I am still getting ready for my zebras, but there is something that has been bugging me for some time now. Most of the pleco tanks I had in the past and most of the ones I have seen on this and other websites show a tank heavily stacked with caves, rock crevices, and wood. My question is how ...

L144s with zebras?

Hey

A friend of mine recently bumped into a situation where he doesn't have room for his L144s.

Would a mated pair of L144s be suitable as a tankmate for a couple of zebras?

They would be going into a 15 gallon.

Thanks for the input.

interesting idea gtp, i'll def try it. :)

As for the discus, from my readins they should be fine with zebras, on the plus side, they both love warm waters. But the discus should not be bothered by the zebra, and the frequent water change in the discus tank would be benefitial to the zebra.

For a display tank, discus would work. I would stay away from the larger corys, not only do they eat the egg/fry, they also out compete the zebras with food. I have heard of success stories with the dwarf corys (pygmeus, hatatus, etc) since they dont eat as much. Search tank mates in the search func...

I don't think you would even need chemical filtration, none of my pleco tanks ever used things like activated carbon.

But if you would want to, getting another small filter just for the purpose of chemical filtration wont hurt.

Small tank vs larger?

Hey I am getting 2 1.5inch zebra plecos from a local breeder and in the process of creating their environment. (they wont be coming for about 2 months, so I have lots of time). My main dilemma is what sized tank to put them in. I have posted questions about this in many of my local forums, as well a...
