It looks like it might be severly constipated. Usually the treatment of choice for that is Epsom- which also will raise hardness some. If you have a small tank, move the little guy to it and treat it there. Use 1 teaspoon Epsom/3 gals of water to start- disolve it before putting it in. Make sure tan...

If you start up a smaller growout tank you cant initially fill it with 50% water from the breeding tank to avoid any big problems. I am very fortunate ti have excellent well water and I can move fish at will w/o having to worry about this sort of thing.

The most glaring problem isnt a worry now, if you manage to grow out your zebs and then get them spawning, that is when it will occur. That is the danger/problems any central system can cause- if a contagious disease starts in any of the three tanks its in all of them. Any wipe out type illness will...

Here is what I see as the central issue. Zebs are expensive fish, tetras etc are cheap fish. Fish diseases and parasites can be spread between species. So when your two dollar tetra is sick and its something that is caught by your zebra which is worth 125-300 (depending on size) exactly how happy wi...

I dont know how much help this will be, but... I keep a breeding colony of 12-13 adult zebras in a 30 gal breeder- 36x18 footprint. It also normally holds another 30-50 fry at any given time. It has no other fish but the zebras. I also have fry of assorted size- 21 in a 10 gal and about 30 in a 15 g...

Finally, another doubleheader

After a few months of not spawning since the great zebra fry hunt, I am thrilled to report that Fatty, my #2 male, is on eggs. The alpha male is tending his last batch of fry which are now free swimming and should be evicted from the cave in the near future. I even had what I think was my #3 male in...

I should have fish available to ship, but you need to arrange for an overnight carrier to pick up- ie you must have an acct with FedEX or DHL or UPS.

I have committed to selling 16-20 fish the last week of Jan through Feb 10. There are more coming behind them.

My rule for selling my fry, of which the first are about to fo out, is that they must be at least one inch total length and a minmum of six months. Most of the ones ready to go now were spawned between last April and July. I prefer that buyers pick them up so they can choose which ones they take. I ...

I am not a fan of mixing zebras with other plecos. I have done it and the only plecos ever lost in the tank were zebras. I mixed them with 134, 260 and 333. The zebras can not compete with larger plecos well at all, especially for territory.

I have a high light co2 added tank, it is problably the last tank I would put zebras into. Zebs like rock and wood work to hide in, not plants. They also seem to do better in higher temp water which most plants do not like. Finally, as noted above, zebs like good flow which will bend many plants or ...

I have my breeding colony of 12-13 in a 30 gal breeder tank. It is loaded with rock, slate and wood. They spawn in there and I have had as many as 50+ assorted fry in the same tank with them at times. I think providing tons of adequate hiding places is as important as tank size. However, a smaller w...
