Thanks for the response all. Xanthic forms do appear in the wild (hence the reference in the article). Their chances of survival are lower than "normal" forms depending on the environment but "lower" doesn't mean "none". For instance, suppose that a xanthic form is in d...

Thanks all. But you got us a bit perplexed now. We bought the parents as wild caught and have reasons to believe they were too. Before disclosing these, however, we would like to know what makes you believe they weren't (particularly as you all seem to be positive they weren't without so much as hav...

Plans shouldn't be a problem, my rack is very simple. It is square boxes to the dimentions specified. There is a piece of MDF at the bottom of each box on which there is polystyrene tiles - the tank rests on it. The wood is also used to screw the lighting of the tank below.

Best of luck.

ok thanks everyone. Do you think i would be able to keep and breed 4-5 zebs in a 20-25gallon (us gals) ? Can't see why not. That's roughly about 90 litres, which is decent. Again, check your floor space though. If the volume of the water is due to the height of the tank they may be a bit too tight ...

Re: building a three level tank stand

my friend wants to build a three tiered stand. 3x 55 gallons. anyone have any plans/pixs or a link to where something like this is done? Here is a photo of one of my racks (double) at the capacity you require. TwoTankAmin is right, to reach the top tank I use steps (it's not that bad, the small ste...

I got 21 fish in a 250 litre tank and they just bred. There has never been a fight in this tank but I had it built on purpose for them. I think the important thing is the floor space - water capacity is only important in order to maintain water stability. Try and get a tank which is long rather than...

I had a strange situation with the recent spawning too. The third female went in the cave of the Alpha male, and he chucked her out. She then went in the cave of the beta male and he blocked her out. She ended up in the cave of the third male, who let her in. They were locked in for two days and eve...

Double Spawn

I've been patient for them and it paid out. Caesar and Zeus both bred, with two weeks difference. Lyretail, the first cave is yours, and if we didn't have it there wasn't a hope of getting a pic of the eggs, not in a million years!!! Below Caesar with eggs and Zeus with his fry. Enjoy! http://i11.ph...

You can post some pictures in the relevant section here when the fish are about 5cm onwards - I would say 2 years old or so. The younger the fish the more confusing the situation..

I would second what the others have said. At the end of the day, looking at it another way, if you try false economies you may end up losing the money you pay for it altogether.
Can you not go and have a look at it prior to buying it ?

Putting more than one male in a tank you always take a risk IMO. Some people recommend putting two males - the competition between them apparently gets the females to chose who they will spawn with. In my case, these two males have co-existed happily for over 3 years. I have had two more incidents i...

If the worms are in the filter only they could be detritus eating worms, which to the best of my knowledge will not harm the fish. One way of getting rid of them is to "mature" another set of filter materials, put them in your filter (so as not to upset the biological balance of the tank) ...
