Re: Belo Monte Dam
Brazil just took steps via CITES to make it harder for zebra plecos to cross borders. This includes those tank raised. Because Brazil bans the exports of zebras, they are permitted to request that they be added CITES Appendix III. Basically, what this does is to requires all signatories to the the C...

Did anybody really think it would not go this way? Brazil may be one of the most corrupt nations in the eastern hemisphere.

Re: First spawn
If you can do so w/o damaging the bigger one, yes. One thing to realize here is that there are any number of reasons an egg or eggs may not be viable. While we may not see this sort of thing, the dad knows. His jub is the keep the eggs aerated and to remove unviable ones so they do not cause harm to...

Re: First spawn
First, congrats on the spawn. it should be the first of more. There are no rules for this stuff. Different breeders use different approaches. basically we use what works for us. First spawns often do not work out well as the dad is so new. The eggs may be out because the dad knows it is bad and inte...

Re: Looking for zebs
I hate to say it, but fish stores are usually the worst place to buy zebras. Their mark-up is nuts. Zerbas are pretty easy to find from breeders in the states. If you have $450 and shipping their are a pair on AquaBid right now. I do not use Aquabid for personal reasons. I contacted the seller and t...

Re: all but 3 fish died overnight during a storm.
Try loosing 24 zebras 2 inches or more overnight. Then try not having the least clue what caused it.
But things like that, after I get over the initial upset, just make me want to try again but even moreso than before. At least I have well water so I never need to dechlor.

Re: Hi from Scotland
Welcome to the site and the wonderful world of zebras. As to the fighting, this will only happen in relation to spawning. Male plecos are territorial. So in a tank with multiple fish there will be a process of working out a pecking order to see who gets to claim the best cave. Females will also work...

Re: 10 x 3 year old zebs
When forced to do best guess I hope for the fish to be as old as possible. I want to be able to see odontile growth or the lack of any or much. I will also look at head shape. However, the origin of the fish is also something I would use to influence my decision. In the wild males are collected in a...

Re: 10 x 3 year old zebs
Firstly, welcome to the site and the wonderful world of zebras. I won't even try to do exing here for a couple of reasons. The first is the pictures when enlarged are not clear enough to see certain needed indicative details. The best I can offer here is how you can tell yourself. Body shape and odo...

Re: Quick question on stocking
People have different opinions on zebras. Many prefer to keep them in a species tanks. In the wild you will not find the kind of fish you have with zebras. There is another aspect to all this. The Belo Monte dam in Brazil will more than likely cause the extinction of H. zebra in the wild. Many keepe...

First, welcome to the site. Next, you can upload pictures in two ways/ If you have them hosted on line, then all you need is the URl for the picture (this is normally a .jpg linl0. Click on the Img tab and then paste the picture link between the two Img tags. The other way is to click the Attachment...
