Summer 2019 Breeding project

I think this is the proper place for this thread. Here is the immediate plan. 1. I am behind on regular maint. and water changes. So I need to get caught up. 2. I would like to get usable pictures of the current set-ups and post them in this thread. 3. I have two short term projects. One is to conve...

Re: Hi Guys Kev from the UK here ;)

Welcome to the site and to the wonderful world of zebra. Bear in mind that there are different ways to work with zebras. In the end we all have to learn what works best in our tank(s). Anything below which says how I do it should be seen as my way but not the only way nor even the best way. A few ge...

Re: Hallo from Hungary

Welcome back to the world of zebras. I have never found it easy to sex zebras by body characteristics. I can vent them and that is more reliable, but they need to be as large as the ones you mention. I often find at that size and in the right tnak set-up, I can sex them based on their behavior. Of c...

Re: L333 and L134

Folks will react differently here and can give varying advice. I would never buy a pleco hybrid knowingly unless it was a single fish and was never going to be bred. I am not in favor of hybrids at all. Since you provided no location information I cannot comment on pricing. But, in the states those,...

Re: Help me please!

The information provided should include the inhabitants of the tank. That said there are a couple of things that could be at work. If a female fish it may be full of eggs and ready to spawn. Or it could be full of eggs and egg bound. I can also be constipation. If the fish isn't pooping, it will swe...

Re: plecoplanet website still around?

It was an OK site, but Planetcatfish.com has even better information as should scotcat.com. What makes any site durable is not its content but its active membership. It takes a decent number of members to keep a site afloat. This is complicated by the fact the sites above are basically not for profi...

Re: L173 Plecos

The 173 is not the same as a zebra. they differ significantly in a number of ways. 1. 173 get larger than zebras. 2, Zebras pretty much look like zebras from the time they go fee swimming to the time they die. 173 tends to go through different appearances over time. As it approaches sexual maturity ...

Re: Any ideas how I can collect Harlequin Rasbora eggs in my Zebra tank?

Sorry, for the slow reply. Almost all plecos get caught in nets. It's their odontile growth that gets caught. I use a brine shrimp net for fish that fit, it has a finer mesh cloth than standard nets. I doubt bn would explore nets unless algae is on them. You can also try floating plants, Especially ...

Re: Repashy Meat Pie

I pretty much use the Hikari for frozen. I have 3 sizes of blood worms, one brine shrimp is gut loaded with spirulina the other is plain plus I have mysis shrimp. I also feed daphnia now and then. Fry get BBS and Cyclops. Bear in mind the best meaty foods for fish tend to be live. I see frozen as th...

Re: Repashy Meat Pie

The Hikari i feed is pretty much only the frozen, I trust that brand for frozen. The only other Hikari I use is their algae wafers. Both the amano shrimp and the asassin snails love them. I tried NLS but was not impressed. Most commercial foods are not all that great imo. For meat loving plecos live...

Re: Should I combine tanks?

I wouldn't mind seeing a few zebra fry even if they eventually "disappear". My two cents worth: * While I dearly love having my B&W Hypans, the least expensive ones cost me $175 per. A couple were replacement fish smaller than what they replaced, so there were a few closer to $100. So...

Re: For those who feed with Mussels/Clams question

While I applaud your dedication to feeding interesting and appropriate foods, you might want to consider another route for feeding shellfish. That is the Repashy Bottomg Scratcher. Here is a list of the ingredients: Krill Meal, Insect Meal, Mussel Meal, Squid Meal, Dried Brewer’s Yeast, Dried Seawee...
