They look like healthy zebras to me!
I was battling algae for the longest time. I got a smaller light (now about 1.5 WPG) and only leave it on for six hours a day and my algae woes are over.
Hope this helps.

Re: suggestions on 29g biocube for the zebs
I keep rummynose tetras, cardinal tetras, and wild green neon tetras with my zebras and they do great together. I had a 29g biocube salt water tank. I think it would work well for a zebra setup, but might need a pump upgrade (if I remember the pump supplied is a little under powered). I'd also sugge...

Re: Can you see the eggs inside the female?
Yes, I can see the eggs in gravid females. The yellowish color of the eggs seen in the female is the most notable change for me, especially apparent by flashlight at night.

Re: Rainy seasons
TDS = Total Dissolved Solids. It's a measure of water hardness. Nominally, I keep my TDS at 150ppm and the water at 87*F. In the wild, during rainy seasons, the TDS drops with the influx of new freshwater. In dry seasons it increases as the pure water evaporates and leaves minerals (among other thin...

Re: Rainy seasons
I have to be honest...I took the later approach mentioned and just ignored the tank. Truthfully, I was trying to do a "dry season" and about 6 weeks into it of tank neglect, "poof"...they spawned.

FS: L46 (Zebra Pleco) Juveniles -- UPDATED!!!
Three L46 juvenile zebra plecos for sale that are about 1.25" TL. Pictures of actual fish are below. Keep in mind the diameter of a quarter is nearly 1 inch. http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k234/mistern2005/IMG_3968_111.jpg http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k234/mistern2005/IMG_3963_111.jpg T...

Re: How many zebras in a 20L?
It's a very nice looking tank! I had my group of 7 in a 20 gallon long for about 2.5 years until I had a larger tank available (and the new tank has roughly the same amount of floorspace!). I have 7 caves of different size/composition and almost 95% of the time my zebras just hide in slate rock crev...

Re: Zebra fry in trap.
This is neat to see working. In my last spawn, my male kicked a fry out that I try saving a breeder trap, but it died. seeing this work for someone makes me think the dead fry was just not viable rather than the fry dying since it was put into a breeder trap.

Re: Raising Fry Question.
Wow. Tank you all for the wonderful responses! I guess the consensus is clear....I'll start leaving the fry in with the adults and just do a yearly fry search/ tank remodel to catch the little ones. We will see...hopefully there will be another spawn sometime soon so I can compare growth rates for m...

Raising Fry Question.
My first zebra spawn was on December 20, 2010. I separated the fry from the father at two weeks. At this point the fry had no yolk sac and took to normal foods quite well. I've kept the fry in a breeder trap in a separate 10 gallon tank the entire time. The fry have been eating quite well and are ge...

Fry Swap.
Thankfully it looks like the first spawn of 5 babies is doing quite well and the little ones are growing like weeds. The father is on a new batch of wrigglers and even the abandoned wriggler is doing great! Life's pretty good... I do want to set up a fry swap with someone else. I am interested in fo...

Re: what filters are best for zeb tank ??
I go for 20-30 times turnover in an hour. If you have an 80l tank, that would be 1600-2400 liters per hour. Oxygenated flow is also very important!

Re: Are my zebs big enough to sex yet?
Top pictures: I think all three are males.
Bottom Picture: I think left two males, one of the ones on the right definately looks like a female, the other looks more likely to be female.
