Oh, Tom, how awful - I can't really give you any advice it needs somebody with experience of this to help. Have you tried a 'search' as there are quite a few posts giving suggestions as to what might be happening.
I hope you manage to sort it out quickly.

Thanks, McEve I have left the light off since Wednesday - every day I use my little battery powered cleaner with the bag on it and vacuum up most of the green - I havn't removed the sand yet although some is sucked up with the cleaning.
