Discus and Zebras sharing...

...well how about the same re-circulating water at 86F and 7.5pH. These are custom tanks 25 x20 x 16", so they are pretty deep. I wanted to experiment with a multi-layer type of zebra environment, stacking them both high & wide. I find these guys as high as 12" above ground, enjoying t...

I think you should set the temp to 85-86F and try to keep your pH neutral. Clean water is a most for Z's, do partial water changes at least once a week....I do them daily. Don't let leftovers decompose in the tank. There's tons of threads regarding diet, depending on their size and age. Do a search ...

Sounds to me that your tank(s) were not cycled properly. What are your water parameters? what & how often are you feeding them?

They are selling wild-caught zebras???

Check out this place: http://www.tangledupincichlids.com/ They are advertising L046 wild caught 2" for $275-285. Price sounds right, but how can they get wild-caught? Does 2" for wild caughts sounds fishy? Has anybody done business with these people...I'm seriously interested. Thanks. Dan

Not really....it is just that there is a lot of uneaten food & I don't want it to spoil. Again, I think I overfeed.

Barbie, let me give you the complete picture. About a year ago I went zebra-crazy and bought several stock from different breeders so I could mix the bloodline. I ended up with 4 x20 gal long tanks plus one 30 gal long in a central filtration system. Each tank can be isolated and put on individual f...

How can I induce them to breed?

Ok guys, here's the deal: I have an adult colony for ove 8 months now and they don't seem interested in sex :( From what I can see, there are 3 males, 2 females and one undecided snubnose. Males are about 2.75-3.5". Females around 3". Alpha male always in a cave (got 3 caves). He bullies m...

I doubt that they are 2 years old. Under good conditions and a good diet, zebras should be near breeding size at that age, which should be around 3". The first pic looks a bit stressed, probably due to being in the bag a bit too long. Too bad you couldn't take pics of their underside to see the...

She's trapped!

First time I have adult Zebras and the large dominant male trapped one of the females in a slate cave about 24 hours ago, & he won't let her come out. How is she going to eat? Now what? Everytime I try to shine a light, he just squeezes in there and I can't see much. How long will he have her th...

Thank you all for the fine wishes. I hope they settle down soon, so they can start doing the "wild thing" John, regarding the snubnose, thanks for the info. I think the thread is inconclusive...the condition itself might be induced by shinning a torch and the male squeezing the fry a...

Happiness is.....

A new group of 6 adult Zebras, with at least 2 proven females in the group!

As part of the deal I had to take some juvies....this guy is kinda cute, with a dolphin-face. Is that what you call snub-nose? He/she is about 2.5"/ Can this be bred and if so, will the fry be like him/her?

You are right about the backup TTA...here in South Florida we get hurricanes that can wipe out electricity for days. I couldn't afford a complete house unit...how much are they? 10K? but I got the 1800 W automatic backup, good for 10-12 hours. I also got a 2300W Power Inverter coupled with dual Deep...
